Jimmy Powell led a Birmingham based soul and R&B band which once included Rod Stewart. They toured Germany and were known for hit songs titled “Time Mends Broken Hearts” and “I Just Can’t Get Over You”.
The Bonzo Dog (Doo Dah) Band were arts students who formed their band in London in 1962. They were featured on BBC’s Do Not Adjust Your Sets and were known for their hit songs, “Winchester Cathedral”, “I’m the Urban Spaceman” (produced by Paul McCartney) and “Can Blue Men Sing the Whites?” Their big albums were titled Gorilla and Keynsham and they later appeared at the Isle of Wight Festival. They supported the Who on a US tour. Band member Neil Innes later worked on The Ruttles with Eric Idle.
The Crusaders Steel Band can be heard on their album, New Sound Chapter 1. Band member, Joe Daniels was one of Britain’s leading virtuoso drummers. He was born in South Africa, had a long career, and released a major hit titled “Sweet Sue” in 1935.
This nights bill also included acts from Joe Daniels and his Orchestra and Karl Gustav Shavenburg Palm Court Trio.
